Looney Toon Politics

This election has been rife with misinformation, over-generalizations, over-simplifications, cognitive dissonance and several other manifestations of logical fallacy leaving the American people unable to discern fact from fiction. One conspiracy theory after another and one false allegation after another, the American people are plunged deeper and deeper into a well of insanity from which there is little hope of recovery. Because of this insanity Hillary Clinton has acquired certain assumptions about her character and beliefs but when held up to scrutiny they don’t hold up.

Hillary claims she is pro-LGBTQ rights but she has a history that isn’t so clear. In 2000 she said, “Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time, and I think a marriage is as a marriage has always been, between a man and a woman.” In 2004, when she was a Senator, she said, “I believe that marriage is a sacred bond between a man and a woman.” She went on to say that marriage was and still is the primary mechanism for how we raise our children in society. This is starkly different from her sentiment today and some argue that this shift in policy is a sign that Hillary simply shifts her positions depending on public sentiment or in other words, that she’s a typical politician who will say anything to get elected.

Furthermore, what I fail to understand about her base is how they can think of her as the more pro-immigrant or pro-Mexican candidate when she advocated for a “barrier” back in 2006. Matter of fact, when it comes to immigration, Hillary used to sound exactly like Trump.

While Hillary claims she is a humanitarian she accepted tens of millions of dollars from countries that legally kill homosexuals and sentence women for getting raped. She advised Obama to make the largest weapons deal to a foreign country in US history: 2010– $29.4 billion (which ended up actually being $60 billion) from Saudi Arabia to Boeing for “84 F-15 aircraft, 70 upgrades of existing Saudi F-15s to a more advanced configuration, 70 AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopters, 72 UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters, 36 AH-6i light attack helicopters, and 12 MD-530F light training helicopters.” This very hardware has been used by Saudi forces to carry out over 8000 humanitarian violations in the form of civilian casualties within surrounding countries like Yemen. How can she do business with and accept funding/donations from countries that run totally counter to our cultural values and to what she claims she stands for?

Through some miracle, she’s also got voters thinking she is the pro-BLM candidate

She’s also made claims that she doesn’t support the Transpacific Trade Partnership (TPP) and yet on 45 separate occasions she advocated for it as the gold standard and largely beneficial for all countries included in the deal. In this case, she was for the TPP so long as the public didn’t know that much about it but once public sentiment began to shift away from the deal, she changed her mind. Through some miracle, she’s also got voters thinking she is the pro-BLM candidate when in fact she’s said things and advocated for policy that the BLM movement is fighting against.

I don’t know if it’s cognitive dissonance or simple ignorance but too many Americans associate her with beliefs that she doesn’t really stand for. She may claim she’s changed her mind on things but I find that hard to believe when its only once she’s running for president that she supposedly turns over a new leaf. Hillary is just a typical politician who surveyed public sentiment and followed suit. She doesn’t believe the things she says she stands for. It’s all about her career, not what’s in the best interests of the nation. Unfortunately for us, Trump is no angel either.
